Around RLC this week: Centrikid Camp 2016

Ten students and three adults from Real Life Church attended Centrikid Camp in Campbellsville, Kentucky last week. Their week was full of sports and recreation, worship, Bible study, and a group favorite: OMC, or Organized Mass Chaos, where the students would participate in activities that usually involved lots of water or shaving cream! Students learned, bonded and grew closer to God during their week away. Check out some pictures below to see a taste of all the fun!

Volunteer Spotlight: Drew Fulkerson

In “The Pursuit of God,” A.W. Tozer wrote:  “Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers met together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be, were they to become ‘unity’ conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.”  In other words, believers are called to be in relationship with God, and in turn, become unified with one another.  We were created with a deep need for fellowship that comes from worshiping our Creator together.FullSizeRender

When first visiting Real Life Church, it was a friendship with another family that invited Drew Fulkerson and his family.  It was the fellowship of other members that encouraged the Fulkersons to stay, and it is the hope to strengthen old relationships and foster new ones that drives Drew to serve and be a part of RLC:  “I enjoy making our church a welcoming place for everyone. I also cherish the relationships that my family has formed while serving at RLC.”IMG_1413

While he might have a tender side when it comes to the friendships he and his wife have cultivated (they co-lead the married couples LifeGroup, and he co-leads the ushers on Sundays), Drew uses strength and resilience with various building projects around the church. “I help tear down walls, build new walls, paint walls and floors, hang speakers, and I’ve helped move the stage a couple times.”  In addition, he is able to utilize his technology skills by operating the camera on Sundays and recording the worship service and sermon.

As for his life outside of church, IMG_1412he proves to be a dependable and loyal person in all areas. Drew grew up just an hour away from Bowling Green in Owensboro, Kentucky.  After receiving an education at WKU, he became a computer science teacher at Bowling Green High School.  When he’s not teaching or serving at church, Drew can be found playing golf or disc golf, enjoying his quadcopter, or watching movies with his wife Jahna.

Drew’s dedication to his family, job, and church brought him the Spotlight for this week.  So be sure to show him some appreciation for all he does at Real Life Church!

Volunteer Spotlight: Hope Cafe

image3The Hope Cafe has become a staple around Real Life Church; members have a difficult time resisting the aroma that radiates through the Welcome Center on Sunday mornings.  However, the temptation is worth giving into, and not just because the homemade breakfast foods FullSizeRenderare so good.

Up till now, proceeds collected before the 9:30 and 11:00 worship services have been reserved for missions funds.  While this is still the case, Hope Cafe is also seeking another purpose:  Each month, a beneficiary will be sponsored by the morning treats.

During the month of June, the Center for Courageous Kids will be blessed by a portion of the month’s proceeds.  Come July, Stuff the Bus will be Hope Cafe’s next target.  For the following months, RLC will be looking for suggestions on who you who think should be sponsored.  See Amy Roan, another Cafe volunteer, or post to the Real Life Church Facebook page to voice your idea. (There will also be a survey via Facebook to gather more ideas, so be on the lookout for that as well!)

If the aroma that greeted you at the front door was not enough to entice you to indulge in some homemade breakfast, then allow this to be an incentive!  Thank you to Amy Roan and the rest of Hope Cafe for the opportunity to give and invest more into our community!
